HOW TO CONTRIBUTE

Researching Internal Displacement publishes engaging and insightful short pieces of writing, artistic and research outputs, policy briefings and think pieces on internal displacement.

We welcome contributions from academics, practitioners, researchers, officials, artists, poets, writers, musicians, dancers,  postgraduate students and people affected by internal displacement.

We aim to facilitate the quick and effective dissemination of these pieces among the largest possible audience and will thus share them on our social media accounts as well as through our mailing lists and on the website.

How to contribute a piece

Send the title and a draft version of your piece to the Editorial Team at [email protected]. Please also let us know who you are (include a short bio which you are happy for us to publish) and why you are submitting an article on this issue.

  • Articles can be anything from 500 to 4,000 words (although we may occasionally consider submission up to 6,000 words); submissions in the form of other media should be similarly focused.
  • Add hyperlinks to relevant sources and background information;
  • Add a short list of references in the end if necessary (footnotes can only be included in exceptional circumstances);
  • If including a photo or image, ensure you have permission to use it. We welcome photos or images provided by the author that are drawn from their own research or experience.
  • Please write in an accessible way, particularly considering this is a multidisciplinary academic blog.
  • Submissions must be accompanied by a signed and dated statement by the author/s declaring that permission to publish the piece on Researching Internal Displacement is given, and confirming that no further permissions are required
  • We can in some cases consider posting pieces that have previously been published elsewhere, however this would require the author to liaise with the original publisher to obtain permission.

For more ‘formal’ pieces based on original research and over 6,000 words in length, you should consider a submission to our Working Papers on Internal Displacement series.

How to comment on a piece

Comments are welcome on all of our pieces. However, all comments are moderated. Personal attacks or abusive comments will not be published.

Criticism of organisations, rather than individuals, may be acceptable if it serves a justifiable purpose.  It should not be gratuitous, but well-founded, based either on experience or argument. We welcome robust debate, but avoid sweeping, unfounded attacks. While we like to publish as many comments as possible, we may hold back comments which contain harsh criticism with no attempt at all to give that criticism a justified base.

Commenters who have affiliations that readers should be aware of, or conflicts of interest, must declare them. Commenters need to identify themselves by their full names and institutional affiliations unless there are good reasons for not doing so.
